영남중학교 도서관 리모델링
(Yeongnam Middle School Library Renovation)

이 프로젝트는 닫혀 있던 도서관을 열어,
사람과 빛, 그리고 배움이 함께 머무는 리듬을 회복하는 일에서 시작되었습니다.

한때 어둡고 낡았던 공간은,
이제 아이들이 자유롭게 앉고, 눕고, 이야기하며
서로의 존재를 느낄 수 있는 따뜻한 배움의 장소로 바뀌었습니다.
도서관은 더 이상 조용히 책만 읽는 곳이 아니라,
사람이 모이고, 생각이 오가며, 시간이 머무는 열린 공간이 되었습니다.

폴딩도어를 중심으로 기존의 컴퓨터실은
닫히면 집중을 위한 학습실로,
열리면 강연과 전시가 가능한 하나의 무대로 변합니다.
공간은 늘 움직이며,
그 속에서 아이들은 배우는 방식과 속도를 스스로 선택합니다.

빛은 시간에 따라 다른 온도로 머무르고,
그 부드러운 변화 속에서 아이들의 하루가 물결처럼 이어집니다.
건축은 형태를 바꾸지 않고도, 일상의 리듬을 바꿀 수 있다는 믿음으로
우리는 오래된 구조 안에 새로운 호흡을 불어넣었습니다.

색은 감정을 위한 또 하나의 언어입니다.
초록의 평온, 주황의 활기, 푸른빛의 깊이가
서로 다르지만 조화를 이루며
아이들의 감각과 상상력을 부드럽게 깨웁니다.

이 도서관은 단일한 기능의 시설이 아니라,
서로 다른 리듬이 공존하는 살아 있는 생태계입니다.
책장과 의자, 작은 무대 하나에도
사람이 머물고 관계가 피어나는 장면이 만들어집니다.

빛이 들어오며 아이들의 시선이 달라지고,
앉는 자세가 달라지고,
그들의 하루가 조금 더 따뜻해집니다.
그 변화는 공간이 바뀐 결과가 아니라,
공간이 사람의 일상에 말을 거는 방식이 바뀐 것입니다.

이곳에서 건축은 기술이 아니라 태도이며,
공존의 리듬과 사람의 속도를 담은 하루의 풍경으로 남습니다


Yeongnam Middle School Library Renovation

This project began by opening what had long been closed —
a quiet library turned into a place where people, light, and learning share the same rhythm.

A once dim and enclosed space has become
a warm landscape where students can sit, lie down, talk, and feel each other’s presence.
The library is no longer a room for silent reading,
but an open field of exchange,
where thoughts move, and time finds a gentler pace.

At its center, folding doors connect what was once a computer lab.
When closed, it becomes a room for focus and study;
when opened, it transforms into a hall for lectures and gatherings.
The space is never fixed —
it moves with the people who inhabit it,
allowing them to choose their own rhythm of learning.

Light fills the space in different tones throughout the day.
It softens the boundaries,
and in that subtle shift of brightness, the students’ daily lives begin to change.
Architecture, without altering its form, can still reshape the rhythm of everyday life.
Within the old structure, a new kind of breath was quietly introduced.

Color becomes a language of emotion —
the calm of green, the energy of orange, the depth of blue.
They do not divide the space but coexist,
inviting imagination and nurturing the senses.

The library has become an ecosystem of coexisting rhythms.
Each shelf, seat, and small stage carries its own story,
and together they form a landscape where relationships unfold.

As light enters, the students’ gaze shifts,
their posture changes,
and their days become a little warmer.
The transformation lies not in the space itself,
but in the way space begins to speak to everyday life.

Here, architecture is not a form, but an attitude —
a quiet rhythm of coexistence,
a gentle pace that holds the warmth of human presence.
